Norwich's finest under the spotlight.

How would you sum up last season?

I had a pretty successful season in terms of where I was ranked. I started at No 73 provisionally and lost my first match of the season. Then I had a good run to the last 16 of the Grand Prix and after that managed to win most of my first round matches. I just wanted to stay on the tour, but ended up staying on quite comfortably. I’m glad that Barry Hearn has taken over, I was a big supporter of that. I’m a fan of the fact that there’ll be more tournaments, more open events and more random draws, so there will be less emphasis on rankings. With more chances, people are going to practise more and work harder, the standard should get even higher which is exactly what the game needs.

Were there any low points?

I lost in the first round of the UK, I played Craig Steadman who played very well. I didn’t really play a bad match, but that’s the standard these days.

What are your targets for the new season?

I’ve got to aim high, try and have a good run in some of these events and perhaps get into the top 32. If I can get some form back, some really good form, then maybe the 32 could be achievable. I’ve been practising for the last few weeks

What are you up to this summer?

I’ve already been to Majorca with the family but now it’s down to practice.

Have you been watching the World Cup?

I haven’t been a great football watcher recently, I’d watched too much and got bored with the game. But the World Cup is different. I backed France as they’ve got so many good players, but they were rubbish. I also backed Portugal, I thought if Ronaldo hit top form anything could happen, but they’ve also gone now!

Norfolk's biggest snooker star answers our questions.

How would you sum up last season?
It was good, I won quite a few matches. Certainly better than the previous one, when I only won one match. If I had won one more match I could have got into the top 48, but in the end I was happy to finish at No 50 because I dropped down to about 80th at one point. I was in danger of dropping off the Tour, which would have been a bit of a shock.

What was the highlight of the season?
Qualifying for the Honghe Industrial China Open then beating Graeme Dott 5-1 at the venue. He was No 2 in the world at the time and the defending champion and there were a lot of people watching, so it was great to play well and beat him.

Were there any low points?
Not really, I played pretty well all season. Maybe losing to Nigel Bond twice in a month - he beat me in China after I'd beaten Dott, then again in the final round of the World qualifiers. It would have been great to get to the Crucible, but that was a poor match.

What are your targets for next season?
I start at No 36 provisionally, so my main target is to get into the top 32. Mind you, from where I start in the qualifiers that will be very difficult, but I should at least get into the top 48.

Will you be doing anything different?
I messed around with my cue action for about 18 months and that's when I slid down the rankings. Before that, I'd had four or five good seasons, so I shouldn't have done it. Last season I went back to my old technique and that's worked fine, so I'm sticking with it now.

What have you been up to this summer?
I went on holiday with the family to Majorca earlier in the summer, and at the moment I'm at Drayton Manor in Tamworth for the weekend with my two boys.

You're favourite football team is Norwich City, how do you think they will get on next season?
We haven't signed many players this summer and I noticed at the bookies that we are 5-1 to go down. But I still think we've got a chance of the play-offs.
